Have you ever helped a cat lose its mind with a laser pointer? I know, it's wrong. Send PETA for me. But, I happen to think any critter stupid enough to chase a red dot up a wall until gravity wins was essentially created for my personal amusement. If he had common sense, he'd quit playing after the 58th time I made him climb Everest. If the cat had any street sense he'd whoop my arse and take the toy as his booty.

And that is the point - the cat simply doesn't possess the intellectual prowess to noodle it through and attack the premise, instead he chases the sparklie. Silly puss.

The ATF Sparklie: I get it. I understand that ATF is the bane of gun owners. But for the ATF the world would spin on its proper axis and Jeffersonian Rules would apply to all mankind. ATF is the reason Santa doesn't visit Somalia.

Patriots, every moment you spend raging against the ATF Machine is a moment you are not focused on the real threat. ATF is a pawn in a game of chess. ATF is the big, lazy, left-handed haymaker that gets your attention, while the mind-numbing right is a rocketing undercut that you can't see coming. ATF is taxes, immigration, economic reform, Gitmo for gun owners - it is the Sparklie that keeps you from focusing on the real issue.

ATF is $4.50 gas and running you to and from the surf in BUD/s, as we discussed in SEAL Training & Trained Seals.

The real issue is Collectivists trying to disarm you, using the force of Government.

If I were an anti-gunner or a politician who wanted to be rid of the threat to tyranny posed by millions of armed Patriots, it would be hard to beat a construct like ATF. They have the color of law, the force of arms, outstanding resources, a bureaucrats mindset, and all of this is done for almost zero cost...and that cost is actually paid by the same people ATF is trying to disarm.

There is no down-side to ATF from the perspective of Government and the Anti's.

The 2010 budget for ATF is just over a billion dollars.

That's cheap. That's a no-brainer for those who would be Masters.

One billion dollars in relation to a $3.5 trillion dollar budget is just about .03%. To put that in perspective, if you earn $50,000 this year, .03% is $15. Yes, fifteen dollars. If you were Government or an Anti, you would conclude $15 bucks is a bargain for wreaking havoc on your enemies.

Wouldn't you spend $15 to have every single one of your political enemies harassed and intimidated by bureaucrats with 30 years to kill before retirement, armed with the US Code, badges and guns? No-brainer.

Here is the best part (from Government's perspective) for those chasing the ATF Sparklie: When you finally manage to raise the political cost of operation high enough that the ATF Brand must be retired - they'll simply retire it.

No fuss, no muss.

Those bad ATF guys misbehaved, so will say the appropriate members of the Political Class, with proper scolding of a handful of ATF bureaucrats who will be forced to retire at GS-14, rather than GS-15. To prevent this sort of problem in the future, Citizens, we are announcing that the duties formerly tasked to ATF will now be absorbed by a new Agency, operating within DHS, where we can properly conduct oversight...

The end result? It cost about $15 bucks a year to keep a significant portion of their political enemies chasing Sparklies...for just about 70 years. (Responsibility for firearms was given to the ATU in 1942, which became the ATF in 1968.) Even if ATF were to be abolished, their agenda, methodology, duties and personnel would simply manifest under another name, and would be scheduled for a new name in 2080, or so.

You have wasted decades of your life swatting at Sparklies.

They'll just make more.

The grind never stops, it simply changes shape.

Do you understand?

NRA is no help to you. If you kill the anti-gun elements of Government, you kill NRA's cash flow. Those who run NRA will never willingly return to the days of relatively little cash flow when their primary purpose was to teach people basic safety and marksmanship. You simply can't buy a McLean (Virginia) mini-mansion on a rifle instructors salary.

NRA and ATF have an unholy, symbiotic relationship that they will never admit publicly. NRA Leadership is part of the Political Class today.

Politicians created the Sparklie with a vote, and only Politicians will kill the Sparklie. You want the ATF to go away? Do you want the premise, the real problem that is the anti-gun disposition of Government to go away?

Elect Politicians who will vote them away.

It really is that simple.

Chase the Sparklie if you want...you are amusing someone every time you climb the wall and gravity wins.

When you earn real attention from our Masters, you'll know it...usually after it is too late. Our Masters will tolerate quite a bit from folks, even Patriots who are rabble-rousing. They really don't care if you are stocking up on rice and beans, even rifles and bullets. They don't care if you call them names or incite a few misdemeanors or send them snarky little letters. If you are trying to get their attention and you have not yet caught a Federal case, it's still amateur hour...or maybe you are valuable to them...

It's when you start to have an impact on the flow of dollars that you will earn real interest. Write a report that negatively impacts the stock value of a few Fortune 50 companies, and you will soon have a genuine understanding of the term Lawfare.

Truth, Justice & the American Way?

Not so much.

The DOJ conviction rate is 95% in a bad year, and pushes above 98% according to some stats. The deck is not only stacked in their favor, they own the deck. And the card table. And the casino. Do you understand?

Can you name any Federal bureaucracy that runs at a minimum 95% efficiency rate? What does that tell you?

Do not make the mistake of thinking that you intimidate them just because they have not yet chosen to come for you...

The Point: If you are trying to incite Big Brother to notice you, go for it! But, man up and roll bigger dice.

If you would prefer to make your preparations for it with relative impunity, just go about your business and avoid taking actions that will make it easy for Them to take you out of play, and do not give them a reason to take you out of play. Don't telegraph about the details of your preparations or defensive measures. Don't put a pistol in your belt, against your local laws, unless you are willing to use it when LEO spots you in the convenience store. Avoid gratuitous violence.

Do not draw hyperbolic lines in the sand. When you draw lines in the sand that you do not defend, it reveals you for what you are deep in your Soul...and some of that bad energy splatters on us, too.

There will be plenty of opportunities for a fight, if you want one, soon enough. Be smart, stay off the radar, so that any fight you engage will be on your terms.

Get your head on straight, Patriot!

Following the counsel of idiots and hollow heroes regarding SHTF circumstances will get you dead...and if you can't tell the difference between serious men and hot-air machines, you're already half way to a mass grave. Growling on blogs about how you will not yield one more inch, or one more of your gun rights, then letting LEO have your pistol during a traffic stop makes you a pathetic joke, not a Leader worthy of serious consideration.

Hyperbolic proclamations about what you will do to any Alphabet Agency team making a dynamic entry to your home is hardly helpful to the Patriot cause.

If you draw a line in the sand, defend the damned line! Do not whine and make excuses later about the better part of valor! Your poor judgment (drawing the line) and cowardice (choosing not to defend it) colors us all.

Current political leaders are only the face of the problem confronting America today. The underlying cancer eating the American Soul is Liberalism. But for your Liberal neighbors, Liberal politicians would never be elected to office.
