I challenge anyone who claims that politics is not capable of correcting the course of the republic to consider the US House of Representatives filled with a majority of men and women who think like Walter Williams.  Such people would not yield to the power and money of Washington.  Such people would defund what they could not kill outright.

America would begin to heal immediately.

Where do we find 100 folks like Williams?

Start with your nearest mirror.  Why not? 

If you have the patriotism and the mettle to consider picking up a rifle and fighting for Liberty, do you not have the requisites for fighting in the halls of Congress? 

In what Congressional District do you live?  Go here, figure out which District is yours, and consider the 2010 numbers for your District.

How many people voted for the Red candidate in 2010?  If you manage to win the primary, you can count on at least as many votes in the general election, unless you blow the middle.

There is every likelihood that the 2012 House races will be just as favorable for Red candidates as was 2010, and probably more.  I think by 2012 the average, middle-of-the-road Independent voter, the ones who most often control the results of an election, will be eager to reach beyond the paradigm and listen to unconventional candidates.  If your Platform is sufficiently narrow to avoid cultural issues that will turn off the middle, yet focused on their 3 most important issues, you can win.

If you already have an R in your District, and you simplify your Platform to reflect core III values (which are core Tea Party values), don't you think you'd be a better Congressman than the guy or gal who is there now?

If you have a D in your District, what is the margin by which the R lost last time?  That is the number of people in your District that you need to convince that you can do a better job than your currently sitting D.

Of course, there are a few Districts that simply will not go R the next cycle.  Nancy Pelosi will not lose to anyone running as an R.  She could face a challenge from another D, or an Independent.

If you live in Ron Paul's District, leave him alone.

I live in Maryland 8, where Chris Van Hollen beat the R: 138,000 to 48,000.  An R will not win that seat, but the right candidate could force the Democrat Party to spend money in the district that they would choose to spend elsewhere, and an Independent who is laser-focused could give him a run.

There are weak Blue Districts out there, and despite the sea of Red on the national map of Red Districts, we could replace a significant number of sitting R's with better Patriots.

Why not you?

Looking at Maryland 8, if I were working with a candidate the first thing I'd do is register my candidate as an Independent.  That immediately nullifies the stigma of labels, while appealing to the folks in the middle who pride themselves on the Independent label. I might even have my candidate register as a D and fight in the primary, if the realities on the ground made it feasible.  We could shift easily to Independent for the General, and take votes from the nominee.  Winning the R primary carries more baggage than it is worth in Maryland 8, if you truly want to win.

Since my candidate will run on the III Platform, modified for the audience, we'd be sticking to economic issues, for the most part.  Every question thrown at our campaign about any issue would be spun into economic terms.  You must define your campaign, lest your opponent will define it for you, and you will lose.

You know the III position on GGG, but that doesn't mean they have to be out there in your speeches, alienating voters.  Stick to the issues that matter, and nothing else.

The economy will be the issue of the 2012 election for most voters.

Plain-spoken, outside-the-beltway candidates will have an edge, again.  Plumbers and Teachers and Housewives, oh my!

Money is the key to winning most political races.  You simply must raise money to compete.  Very few people have the personal wealth to finance their own campaign.  So, if you are starting with a small budget, say a few hundred dollars, it can be done.

Remember that I said here that sales is the fundamental premise of most business.  It is the same as a politician.  You simply must sell yourself to more people than does the other guy.

In Maryland 8 there are about 261,000 households.  There are several Tea Party groups, several Republican clubs, and several special interest community groups that will help you reach to larger audiences.

But, in order to win a grassroots campaign, and every III/Tea Party campaign will be grassroots, your candidate must get out and meet people.  $100 bucks will buy 10,000 business cards that you can give to people, sending them to your website where they can reinforce your name recognition, begin to chat you up with friends and family, explore your policy positions, and click on that essential Donate button.

Build an email list at every single opportunity.  It is worth gold, wrapped in platinum.

The job of the candidate is to get out there and knock on every single door, shake babies and kiss hands.  Then, the candidate needs to do it again at your District businesses.

If your candidate has anything going in the charm, common sense, electability departments, efforts will be undertaken by the people who agree with him.  He will begin to get invitations to visit with ladies at the book club, folks at the VFW, and businesses.  It is called momentum.

This is how one runs a grassroots campaign, and gets people who would otherwise sit on the sidelines on election day out to the polls.  If you impress that guy over on Floral Avenue who usually doesn't bother to vote, but he thinks you can make things better, he'll go pull a lever.  Most political campaigns today are run from 40,000 feet, rather than getting face to face with the people who will vote for you, one on one and in small groups.

Politicians want to fill stadiums, so they can hit more voters with minimal effort.  That can work if your name recognition is high and you already have a base...but when you are starting from zero, you will have to build momentum one voter at a time.  It will become personalized, and you will have a higher ROI for time invested than does the professional politician treating the District like Fly-Over country.

If you can get 8 sweet little blue-haired old ladies charmed at a tea, you will gain more energy than giving a lunchtime speech to a cafeteria of 50 employees at the local service company who are there because the boss put them in the room.  Where the professional politician can make dollars work for him, you need to use charm, issues, and genuine personal interest in the people you ask to vote for you.

One household at a time.

If you married up, as I did, take your wife and let her be the charmer.  Consider: Would your wife be a better candidate?

Knock on the door, smile and introduce yourself.  Hand the homeowner your card and ask them to visit your website when they have a chance.  That's all.  Do not ask for donations, do not take more than 30 seconds, unless they invite you to chat.  Your goal is to let as many households as possible know your name and that you are running for Congress.

So, I ask again...why not you?  You can hand cards to your neighbors.  You can tell people what you think, and you don't need to be a slicky-boy sales guy in your delivery.

Let your Patriotism and common sense guide you, and you have more to offer than the other candidates.  They probably want the job for the wrong reasons.  People can sense insincerity.  When they must choose the lesser of 2 evils, you win by default.

As of January 21, 2010 there will be 193 Congressional Districts out there with a sitting D, and we need Patriots to step up in each and every District to start brushfires, even in Maryland 8 where the magic 8 Ball says the odds of winning are on the order of unlikely without the kiss of an Angel.  There will be 242 R Districts, and a great many of those could be improved if the sitting R was challenged by a III Patriot holding hardline Tea Party positions.

Why not you?  You don't need much money to get the ball rolling, though you'll need to start very soon if you have a District with many households.  You do not need to have any political experience.  In fact, that would be a strike against you. 

Before you dismiss the concept out of hand, consider  yourself standing alongside Ron Paul and securing his flank as you vote to audit the Fed.  We already have a numerical advantage, now we simply need to add to our numbers and move Patriots into the building who have the mettle to vote tyranny out the door.

Look at the numbers for your District.  Think about the potential of having a republic once more, because you had the courage to try, and the grit to do the hard work.

Skeletons in your closet that you think would disqualify you?  Not likely, Americans have a habit of not giving a darn, unless you try to cover it up or make excuses.

Think about it.  It would be better for us all if we can change the republic with just 100 Patriots, rather than needing every III Percent Patriot to gear up...
